Curly W Team Sets

Updated: 16 Apr 2018

One of my pet projects that I probably should have completed ages and ages ago is to have full Washington Team Sets. So the Curly W Team Sets Project has begun, or restarts, or continues. The main goal is to get the team set for each year of the flagship Topps and Bowman releases of the Senators and Nationals. Sometime I might even attempt the larger goal of Expos, Twins and Rangers Team Sets and expand into the Fleer and Donruss flagship sets starting from the 1980s.

Anything prior to the 1950s will be difficult and expensive to get, even some of the the 50s and 60s stuff will be expensive.

As I figure out what has actually been printed for the various years/sets I will update my list appropriately. I've been using The Trading Card Database for much of my info that I didn't already have. Mostly by doing a "by team" search for Washington Senators.

This page will serve as the main checklist. This page also sort of replaces "My Curly W Checklist" page that I think got the end cut off  because of a Blogger.com glitch during the last save (whenever I did that) or maybe I had reached the character limit for pages on it.

I am trying to organize my entire card collection better and make sure that my checklists are getting up to date, but many of them are not completely up-to-date. It is an uphill battle.

*Red Man cards originally came with tabs on the bottom, sometimes the tabs are missing. I prefer to get them with tabs but of course those are more expensive. I will probably eventually get a "Master Team Set" by getting both with and without tabs. There are only about a dozen Red Man Senators anyway.

** Transaction Notes:
1961 Washington Senators move and become Minnesota Twins 1961-Present* an expansion Senators team is formed.
1969 Montreal Expos Formed they become Washington Nationals in 2004.
1972 Washington Senators move and become Texas Rangers 1972 - Present* - No Major League Baseball in DC for 33 years.
1974 There were rumors that the San Diego Padres were to move to Washington, Topps jumped the gun a bit and made a sub-set of 15 Washington National League: Padres cards and quickly corrected them with Sand Diego Padres. Not all San Diego Padres cards from this year had WNL versions just 15.
2005 Montreal Expos move to become Washington Nationals.

*I'll probably make a separate list(s) for the Expos, Twins and Rangers maybe.
