I'm in too much of a rush and a little tired to do any big explanation for this one. I think this was an Ebay purchase. I'm not sure and don't really mind that. It is one of the cards on the Frankly Friday Logo Key I posted last episode. It already has a thumbnail on that post so it needs its own full post and this is it.

I should have done this a very long time ago. In case anyone was stumped on any of the cards that are shown in the logo that heads each episode of Frankly Friday. Since it is a scattered collage there are no real organized rows but fortunately the way they are laid out I can make three reasonably facsimile rows. There are a few of these cards that are not shown individually yet. Those cards I haven't yet mentioned on this blog. Hopefully I will fix that problem soon. When I do I will update this post. Normally I don't like posting incomplete posts or pages but I wanted to get this one out.

Brightening A Rainbow: 2008 Donruss Threads Edition

Huh? I thought I only needed the Auto for this rainbow since I wasn't going for any of the relics, well maybe if there is a bat relic...any who I found this for a real good price on da Bay and couldn't resist for the obvious reasons: It's Hondo, I've got a taste of the Rainbow, Its a cool card and its serial numbered. So there you have it. I got it from Ebay along with another Curly W Card. Shipping was $4.50 for the pair this was the cheaper card for only $1.99. The other a card was a bit steeper at $7.99. I won't bother you with the other card just yet, that is for another non-Frankly post.

So yeah for Two Bucks I picked up a variation of the 2008 Donruss Threads Frank Howard Rainbow. The Century Proof Gold serial numbered to 50. I think there is only the auto to get, and maybe one of the relics. I'm not big into relics but I'd rather have a bat sliver than a jersey swatch so I might look out for that.

For my rainbow I'm going to skip the jerseys but there is still the Platinum Century Proof #d/25, and if they made them for Frank Signatures Gold #d/999 or less, Signatures Platinum #d/25 or less, Bat Relic #d/500 or less. So I need anywhere from just one more to four more cards for this rainbow out of a possible 6 more cards.

Frankly Friday: Score The Triple Crown

For this Frankly Friday installment I have this beauty that I think I got from a purchase on one of the card forums Sports Card Forum maybe. I am not sure it could have been some random collector who contacted my from my regular blog. So if I did purchase it I don't recall how much I got it for. I might have even bought it with a couple of other cards. Enough of my babbling you came here to see the card:

As you can see the front has a glittery/chrome/foil print on it. Dufex it is called, whatever that is. That is why the scan looks so Chromy/Blurry. I am not a fan of this type of stuff. Back in the 80s and 90s yeah sure but now not so much. Anyway this is card 2 of a 3 card insert set to the 1993 Score Select set. The other two cards (which I am thinking of getting) are Mickey Mantle 1 and Carl Yastzemski 3.

Frankly Friday: Reflecting on a Rainbow or Joy of a Complete Rainbow

2005 UD Reflections Dual Sig Frank Howard and Nick Johnson RED

Wow its hard to believe that this card is almost 10 years old, and even still that it has been six or seven years since I got the "base" version of this card and before I managed to get this variant to complete this sort of mini-rainbow. So in 2005 Upper Deck released a sub-set of these Dual Signatures for the Reflections set. Some of them are two HOFers together and others like this one are an older time player and a modern player some of the combinations have no reasonable connection whatsoever. Maybe they connected players by position, but most of the combinations are head scratchers. This card is sort of the "same" team it is technically not the same team but the same City. The combination of Frank Howard Washington Senators and Nick Johnson Washington Nationals. In September of last year I mentioned my acquisition of the Blue variant. Two of my favorite Washington Players both retired now. Here is the final card from this three card mini-rainbow the serial numbered to 99 RED variant. I got it via Ebay (17 May 2014) for $14.99 + $2.25 shipping. The most I've paid for one of the trio. I've seen each one especially the Blue and Red ones for much much more.

Here are all three together via a mash-up collage. I had scanned each one previously but have never scanned them together so I had to do some "photoshopping" (I used MSPaint) to put the trio together. I think I made them a tiny bit too long lengthwise.

This is one of those cards that I am surprised I didn't have, ditto for the '64 (that excuse is he was a Dodger then) and '69 Hondos (still need to pick those up). I am sure at one time I did have it but don't know how it could have walked away from my collection. It must have happened sometime during the 1970s or '80s when I wasn't looking. Anyway I have at least one copy of it now.

The card came via Ebay ($3.33 + $1.95 shipping) in a PWE. The seller must have gotten a kick out of my screen-name since the 8.5" x 11" page the card was taped to with white masking tape, in a typical sending a card in a PWE way, had the following note:

 "Thank you Capt. Kirk Enjoy! Live Long + Prosper! :)" 

Yes it was complete with the underscore on my handle and the smiley face smilie. A real smilie not the colon and right parenthesis. Oh and then the feedback on Ebay said

"Capt Kirk is USS Enterprise Capt for a good reason! A+++++++ Thank You!"

Touching, I don't know if I should be flattered, embarrassed or annoyed. Maybe I should change my name to Fred, or better yet Frank. You don't want anymore background noise you just wanna see the card. OK here it is:

Frankly Friday: Frank Kreutzer 1965

This edition of Frankly Friday frankly is a bit freaky. It is not a usual Hondo or FR post, it focuses on one of the overlooked Washington Franks Frank Kreutzer.

Frank Kreutzer originally signed as an amateur free agent in 1961 by the Boston Red Sox, but in November of that year had to bleach his socks as he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. He debuted for the Chi-Sox on 20 September 1962. In 1964 he was traded to the Senators. All his vital stats can be found on his Baseball Reference page. I'm just here to show off Curly W Cards.

2008 Donruss Threads: Frank Howard Rainbow

One of the card sets that I see a lot of is the 2008 Donruss Threads, at least the base cards from it. I still don't have a complete set but I will someday. I have a least 6 of the Frank Howard base card, maybe more if one or two are hiding in an uncatalogued pile somewhere in my card hoard. Anyway there is a Frank Howard rainbow to build and I'm going for it of course, minus any GUs I don't like those so my rainbow will not be a true "Master" set rainbow, just a mini rainbow. Not sure how many more to go but I'm pretty sure there is an autograph version. Here is what I have:

Then we have the Emerald (or Green) parallel serial numbered to /250 I don't recall where I purchased it from. Maybe from another forum member somewhere. I don't think it was from Ebay but might have been.

Then we have my most recent purchase from Ebay for $1.99 plus $1.99 shipping the SP Silver Parallel Serial Numbered to only /100. This one is #33 Frank's Jersey number from 1969 to the end of his playing career. I'm not sure if the seller was aware of that or even cared they didn't mention it. Some dealers try to milk more money out of you if they have the Jersey number or "Ebay 1/1" this one didn't thank goodness. it is "sealed" in it's toploader not sure if the dealer did that or it came that way?

UPDATE: I double-checked the image from the auction and it was shown raw out of any casing so the little silver dot sticker is from the dealer. I could have removed it from the toploader for scanning if I wanted or needed to.
