Frankly Friday: Frankly Friday Logo Details

Frankly Friday: The Key To The Logo

I should have done this a very long time ago. In case anyone was stumped on any of the cards that are shown in the logo that heads each episode of Frankly Friday. Since it is a scattered collage there are no real organized rows but fortunately the way they are laid out I can make three reasonably facsimile rows. There are a few of these cards that are not shown individually yet. Those cards I haven't yet mentioned on this blog. Hopefully I will fix that problem soon. When I do I will update this post. Normally I don't like posting incomplete posts or pages but I wanted to get this one out.

Row 1:

Row 2:

1961 Topps Baseball: 280 Frank Howard Dodgers

1969 Topps Baseball: Decals: 18 Frank Howard Senators

1965 Topps Baseball: 120 Frank Robinson Reds

1969 Milton Bradley Game Card: 120 Frank Howard Senators

Row 3:

1970 Milton Bradley Game Card: Frank Howard Senators

1962 Topps Baseball: Frank Howard Dodgers
1965 Topps Baseball: Back 40 Frank Howard Dodgers

Most, but not all of these cards have been mentioned previously on Hill Street Blues er this blog. Usually as a Frankly Friday Episode.

Frankly Friday: 1954 Bowman Frank Shea

1954 Bowman Baseball 104 Frank Shea

In the before my time category we have a 1954 Bowman Baseball card. Now This card is one of five 1954 Bowman Senators cards that I had gotten from Ebay some 6 or more years ago as a five card lot. I have since forgotten how much I paid for them and since getting them I have only gotten one more 1954 Bowman Senators card of the 14 from that year. I have other '54 Bowman's for a total of sadly only 8 cards.

I really should show those other 5 Bowman Senators sometime, well when I eventually get the rest of the Team Set I will post the full thing.

Frankly Friday: 1953 Topps Originals

1953 Topps Originals vs. 1991 Topps Archives Reprints

A few Frankly Fridays ago (Months and months in "real" time) I had shown some reprints of 1950s era cards including the 1991 Topps Archives 1953 Reprints.

Well I have since purchased the originals of the Two Washington Franks that are represented in that Topps Archives reprint set Frank Campos and Frank Shea. I think I will eventually get the rest of the Archives set someday since getting an original set would be difficult and costly, right now I just have the Senators "team set" from that reprint set.

So I went on a sportlots spending spree splurge that included these two Original Franks (and some Ed Brinkman cards I needed among others). I got these two from two different sellers. My complete order had about 15 different sellers in all. Anyway these two cards arrived on consecutive days a Tuesday and Wednesday. The costs Campos $4.00 + 0.85¢ shipping and Shea was $3.00 + $1.40 shipping (with 3 other cards that I'll probably blab er blog about sometime later on my CaptKirk42 Card Blog.) Shea arrived first on the Tuesday mailday.

The immediate differences between the originals and the reprints is; SIZE the Originals are slightly larger than the standard card size the reprints are standard 3.5" x 2.5", SURFACE FINISH the reprints have a clean glossy finish on both sides, and on the back the Originals are the raw gray/brown card color while the reprints are pure white (with the gloss finish) Other than that the content of both is the same excepting the reprints updated copyright info format.

Frankly Friday: 1953 Topps Reprints

1953 TOPPS Reprints
Last week I showed the 1952 Topps Reprint I have this week I will show the 1953 Topps Reprints I have. I also have some original 1953 Topps cards (a couple of St. Louis Browns) but none of them are Senators yet. I like the design of the 1953s more than the 1952. Again I got a Senators Team Reprint set (Didn't get one of the Browns although I should so I can do a side by side with those originals I have on my regular card blog). 1953 had the same two Franks (Campos and Shea) as the 1952 had this time both were shown properly/timely as Senators. This time the reprints were done in 1991 under the "Archives" Brand.

Frankly Friday: 1952 Topps Reprints

 1952 TOPPS Reprints
Many baseball card collectors consider the 1952 Topps Baseball set to be the Crème de la crème set of baseball cards. Nobody seems to know exactly what it is that has made this one of the most sought after sets in the hobby. This popularity and its scarcity makes the prices for the individual cards insane. So I will probably never have a complete original set, and probably won't even have a complete Original Senators Team set from 1952, but I did manage to get a reprint set of the Senators (and a reprint set of the St. Louis Browns who would become the Orioles in 1954). I have one original 1952 Topps cards of a Red Sox player. I don't have any original 1952 Senators yet. The Senators had two Franks playing for them in 1952; Frank Campos and Frank Shea. Both had 1952 Topps cards, however Frank Shea's card has him as a Yankee as he was traded to Washington in May of 52 and apparently Topps had already printed their cards, where as Bowman seems to have him as a Senator. So right now I only have the Campos '52 reprint so that is the only one I can show right now. When I get some of the originals I can do a side by side, until then I will only have reprints to show from time to time. The 1952 set was reprinted in 1983.
